Waiting on Wednesday: Illuminated by Erica Orloff

Illuminated
by Erica Orloff
Paperback, 256 pages
Expected publication: December 8th 2011 by Speak

An epic romance full of mysteries that transcend time—fans of Romeo and Juliet and The Time Traveler’s Wife will rejoice!

Some loves are not made to last . . . Like Romeo and Juliet, Heloise and Abelard were doomed from the start, and their romance was destined to pass into history. Yet when sixteen-year-old Callie Martin discovers a diary hidden within an antique book, their story—and hers—takes on another life. For the diary leads Callie to the brilliant and handsome August, who is just as mysterious as the secret the diary hides. Their attraction is undeniable. As the two hunt down the truth behind the diary—and that of Heloise and Abelard’s ancient romance—their romance becomes all-consuming. But Callie knows it can’t last . . . love never does. Will their love that burns as bright as a shooting star flame out, or will these star-crossed lovers be able to defy history

Anything with Time Travel is usually A-okay with me! I can't WAIT to read this one.

Waiting on Wednesday: As I Wake By Elizabeth Scott

As I Wake

BY
ELIZABETH SCOTT
  • Reading level: Young Adult
  • Hardcover: 224 pages
  • Publisher: Dutton Juvenile (September 15, 2011)
Ava is welcomed home from the hospital by a doting mother, lively friends, and a crush finally beginning to show interest. There's only one problem: Ava can't remember any of them--and can't shake the eerie feeling that she's not who they say she is.

Ava struggles to break through her amnesiac haze as she goes through the motions of high-school life, but the memories that surface take place in a very different world, where Ava and familiar-faced friends are under constant scrutiny and no one can be trusted. Ava doesn't know what to make of these visions, or of the boy who is at the center of them all, until he reappears in her life and offers answers . . . but only in exchange for her trust.

This one sounds really different from a lot of books on the market. I can't imagine waking up and not being sure of who I am really am-I can't wait to dive in and figure it all out! And what about that cover--it's pretty eye catching, right? Poor girl is having a majorly bad hair day though! :)

Waiting on Wednesday: Juliet Immortal by Stacey Jay

Juliet Immortal

JULIET IMMORTAL BY STACEY JAY
  • Reading level: Young Adult
  • Hardcover: 320 pages
  • Publisher: Delacorte Books for Young Readers (September 13, 2011)
"These violent delights have violent ends
And in their triumph die, like fire and powder,
Which as they kiss consume."
—Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare

The most tragic love story in history . . .

Juliet Capulet didn't take her own life. She was murdered by the person she trusted most, her new husband, Romeo Montague, a sacrifice made to ensure his own immortality. But what Romeo didn't anticipate was that Juliet would be granted eternity, as well, and would become an agent for the Ambassadors of Light. For 700 years, she's fought Romeo for the souls of true lovers, struggling to preserve romantic love and the lives of the innocent. Until the day she meets someone she's forbidden to love, and Romeo, oh Romeo, will do everything in his power to destroy that love.

Okay this cover alone made me want to read the book! :) I'm interested in this because it sounds different than the usual YA paranormal..and I love the story of Romeo & Juliet. I'm dying to see how Stacey Jay gave it her own twist!

Waiting on Wednesday: Eve by Anna Carey

The year is 2032, sixteen years after a deadly virus—and the vaccine intended to protect against it—wiped out most of the earth’s population. Fleeing the only home she’s ever known, Eve sets off on a long, treacherous journey, searching for a place she can survive. Along the way she encounters Caleb, a rough, rebellious boy living in the wild. Separated from men her whole life, Eve has been taught to fear them, but Caleb slowly wins her trust...and her heart. He promises to protect her, but when soldiers begin hunting them, Eve must choose between true love and her life.

Wither (The Chemical Garden Trilogy) (Okay so there was a time when I shied away from books like this. But recently I read Wither by Lauren DeStefano and it took my breath away (definitely add it to your TBR list if you haven't!)  so now I really want to read more books similar to it. This one seems like it has that same sort of vibe- I can't wait !)

Waiting on Wednesday: Swear by Nina Malkin

 SWEAR by NINA MALKIN
 Publication Date 2011
A promise broken. A bond betrayed. It’s been six months since ghost-turned golem Sinclair Youngblood Powers confessed his love, stole Dice’s heart, and disappeared from Swoon, perhaps from existence. Despite the hurt, Dice has been moving steadily toward ordinary. Dreams of Sin still plague and pleasure her sleep, and the mark of Sin’s love remains on her skin, still sore. But Dice has been throwing herself into music, finding solace in song and sometimes even in the arms of her band mate, Tosh. Life seems almost…normal. The last thing Dice wants is to mess with anything remotely supernatural. But when her best friend’s boyfriend goes missing, Dice has no choice but to become very much involved. She knows that his disappearance was no accident, and it somehow has everything to do with Sin. Because Dice can feel it: Sin is back. And the promises and deceptions he left in his wake have returned to haunt him.

What do you do when an oath of devotion threatens to destroy the one you love?

I was a big fan of the first book, SWOON.And now that I know there is a sequel? I am beyond excited and isn't that cover gorgeous? Nina Malkin says on her blog (or blargh as she calls it) that the publication date isn't set but it's looking like late August or early September.

Waiting on Wednesday: Mist by Kathryn James!

MIST BY KATHRYN JAMES

  • Paperback: 336 pages
  • Publisher: Hodder Children's Books (September 1, 2011)

Midnight: a mist-haunted wood with a bad reputation. A sweet sixteen party, and 13 year old Nell is trying to keep her sister, spoilt birthday-girl Gwen, out of trouble. No chance. Trouble finds Gwen and drags her through the mist. Only Nell guesses who’s behind the kidnap - the boy she hoped was her friend, the cute but mysterious Evan River.

All those fairy stories Nell’s grandmother told her about girls being stolen by fairy folk are true. The Elven are beautiful as starlight, fierce as wolves, and cold as ice. And they want their world back. The fight has been raging for centuries. Nell’s grandmother should know, she’s a Watcher, the ones responsible for imprisoning the Elven in isolated iron-bound camps in Siberia. Only Evan, his fanatical older brother Fen, and a handful of Elven children are still free.

Fen, hellbent on revenge, keeps Gwen in their wolf-guarded stronghold deep in the mist. The price for her safe return? The release of all the Elven – but the Watchers will never agree. Only Nell can save Gwen.

Time is twisted through the mist: if Nell stops longer than a night and day, a hundred years will hit her as soon as she returns and she’ll be old and withered before she’s even lived. The clock is ticking.

Waiting on Wednesday: The Eternal Sea by Angie Frazier

The Eternal Sea (Everlasting, #2)

THE ETERNAL SEA BY ANGIE FRAZIER (June 1, 2011)
Romance and adventure are just around the corner . . .

After the thrilling journey that led Camille through the dangerous discovery of love, secrets, and a magical stone that grants immortality, Camille has everything she wants. She's escaped the men who wanted her dead, and now she is ready to build a new life with Oscar, her one true love. But things are not to be so simple. Oscar is acting strangely, and before they can even board a ship from Australia back home, to San Francisco, Camille learns that the journey is not over. If she does not follow the magic of the curse of Umandu, her life and Ocar's could be in grave danger.

This is the sequel to Angie Frazier's Everlasting, a book I really enjoyed. I thought Everlasting was pretty open-ended, so should be interesting to see where the author takes us next!
