Today I'd like to welcome author Megan Crewe, who offered up this great guest post from Cass McKenna, the main character in her debut novel,
GIVE UP THE GHOST!
GIVE UP THE GHOST!
Why ghosts make better friends than "breathers", according to Cass McKenna
Okay, so you might think it's weird that someone would rather be friends with the dead than the living. But really, ghosts have a whole lot more going for them than breathers. Consider:
1) Ghosts are honest. They're dead, after all, so they're not so concerned about proving how cool they are or protecting their image. If they say something, they mean it.
2) Ghosts are accepting. They're so happy to be able to talk to someone living that they wouldn't care if you had purple skin and green hair and seven fingers on each hand. Really.
3) Ghosts are loyal. Being invisible and inaudible to almost everyone, they're pretty starved for attention. So if you're willing to give them the time of day, and treat them like human beings--which they are--they'll always be there for you when you need them.
4) Ghosts will watch your back. Once people know you have an undetectable way of keeping track of what they're up to, suddenly they're not so eager to gossip about you or try out that prank they thought would be oh-so-funny.
5) Ghosts have a unique perspective. Which is pretty cool. They might be able to tell you something about a completely different time period, or have discovered things most people don't know about how the world works. But mostly just the fact that they're dead means it's easy for them to see what's really important in life. And I think we could all do with being reminded of that every now and then.
Like many fiction authors, Megan Crewe finds writing about herself much more difficult than making things up. A few definite facts: she lives in Toronto, Canada with her husband and two cats (and does on occasion say "eh"), she tutors children and teens with special needs, and she has yet to make friends with a ghost, though she welcomes the opportunity.5) Ghosts have a unique perspective. Which is pretty cool. They might be able to tell you something about a completely different time period, or have discovered things most people don't know about how the world works. But mostly just the fact that they're dead means it's easy for them to see what's really important in life. And I think we could all do with being reminded of that every now and then.
Thank you Megan!
