COFFEE TALK WITH SCOUT (AND HER SIDEKICK LILY)
Scout: *holding pen like a microphone* Hello, fantabulous readers out there in bookland. I'm here today with the also fantabulous Lily Parker, co-heroine of Chloe Neill's new novel, Firespell. Say "hi", Lily!
Lily: *leaning toward fake microphone* Hello. And I object to being called a "co-heroine." I'm the heroine. You're the sidekick.
Scout: *snorting* Darling, there would be no firespell if it weren't for me.
Lily: So you're saying this whole mess is your fault?
Scout: *pulling at her collar* Oy. Tough crowd. Anywho, why don't you tell us something about yourself, Lily?
Lily: Well, I'm almost 16. I'm a junior in high school, and I'm now living in the beautiful city of Chicago, Illinois, where I'm starting my junior year at the ever-creepy St. Sophia's School for Girls.
Scout: And how do you find St. Sophia's?
Lily: Via taxi?
Scout: *making rimshot sound* Okay, seriously. What's your first impression of your new school?
Lily: Eh, it's high school. There's weirdos, freaks, normals, preps. The range. Oh, and weird stuff that goes on after hours. Can't forget that part.
Scout: You didn't see that kind of thing back in Sagamore?
Lily: There wasn't much of anything that went on after hours in Sagamore, good or bad. *imitates sleeping* Smalltown, you know.
Scout: Gotcha. And how are you adjusting to life in Chicago?
Lily: *making so-so gesture with hands* I'm adjusting. I'd feel better if I had a better sense of exactly what that after hours stuff was. *slides Scout a sarcastic glance*
Scout: Hey, I've told you what I can tell you.
Lily: Cause you're some kind of secret superheroine charged with protecting Chicago from midnight evil?
Scout: I'd hate to say "no" to something that sounds that good. But I'm sworn to secrecy.
Lily: Is that why you're faking a television interview right now?
Scout: Well, I didn't say I was *good* at it. And that's all the time we have for today. Thanks for joining us, and be sure to tune in next time for more Scout!
Lily: And more Lily.
Scout: That's what I said. Goodnight, everyone!
FIRESPELL BY CHLOE NEILL
As the new girl at the elite St. Sophia’s boarding school, Lily Parker thinks her classmates are the most monstrous things she’ll have to face…
When Lily’s guardians decided to send her away to a fancy boarding school in Chicago, she was shocked. So was St. Sophia’s. Lily’s ultra-rich brat pack classmates think Lily should be the punchline to every joke, and on top of that, she’s hearing strange noises and seeing bizarre things in the shadows of the creepy building.
The only thing keeping her sane is her roommate, Scout, but even Scout’s a little weird—she keeps disappearing late at night and won’t tell Lily where she’s been. But when a prank leaves Lily trapped in the catacombs beneath the school, Lily finds Scout running from a real monster.
Scout’s a member of a splinter group of rebel teens with unique magical talents, who’ve sworn to protect the city against demons, vampires, and Reapers, magic users who’ve been corrupted by their power. And when Lily finds herself in the line of firespell, Scout tells her the truth about her secret life, even though Lily has no powers of her own—at least none that she’s discovered yet…

Chloe Neill was born and raised in the South, but now makes her home in the Midwest, just close enough to Cadogan House to keep an eye on the vampires. When not transcribing Merit’s adventures, she bakes, watches entirely too much television, roots for her favorite college football team (Go Big Red!), plays with her dog, Baxter, and spends time with a pretty great--and very handsome--guy (who she's pretty sure isn't a vampire). She lurks online at her website, www.chloeneill.com.
