Interview & Giveaway with Ellen Schreiber, Author of Once in a Full Moon

Today I'd like to extend a very warm welcome to Ellen Schrieber, author of the popular Vampire Kisses series and the upcoming release, Once in a Full Moon, a new YA werewolf series in the making. Ellen stopped by today to discuss her  book with us and  I have an ARC copy for one lucky winner too! Details below.

Ellen Schreiber
Ellen Schreiber was an actress and a stand-up comedienne before becoming a writer and moving to her own Dullsville. She is the author of Teenage Mermaid, Comedy Girl, and all of the books in the Vampire Kisses series. Vampire Kisses is an ALA Quick Pick for Reluctant Young Adult Readers, a New York Public Library Book for the Teen Age, and an IRA/CBC Young Adults' Choice. Official Website

Once in a Full MoonOnce in a Full Moon is a story about Celeste Parker, a girl who discovers there might be more truth to the scary werewolf stories she’s heard all her life than she ever could’ve imagined. Can you tell us more about the book and share with us a favorite line, scene or passage?

Celeste is looking for true love and finds it an outsider and transfer student, Brandon Maddox. Not only is he from the wrong part of the town, but he might also be a werewolf. Celeste finds herself attracted to him daylight, but even more riveted to him by moonlight. One of my favorite scenes is when Celeste gets lost in a snowstorm in the woods and she is rescued by the hot new student. The intensity she feels toward him gives me chills, even without the snow falling around them.

What three words do you think best describe your novel?

Vampire KissesRomantic. Romantic. Romantic.

Do you remember the first words you ever wrote for Once in a Full Moon and are they still in the novel today?

When I was writing the outline for the novel, I began with “Legends run rampant in the town of...” I loved how Legend’s run sounded, so I used that as the name of the town and had to rewrite the first line of the outline.

If Once in a Full Moon was to be made into a movie, do you have certain actors you envision in the lead roles of Celeste and Brandon or do you think unknowns would be best suited to play them?

Young adult actors grow up so quickly, so once you think about them, then once the book comes out, etc, they already seem too old. I usually envision older actors, but when they were younger. Like Christian Bale for Brandon--and possibly Ewan McGregor for Nash.

You are the author of numerous books, including the popular Vampire Kisses series. What sort of feedback do you receive from readers regarding them?

Most readers want to know if there will be a movie and when the next books or books are coming out. They are all very wonderful and great. Many seem to feel that they are like Raven and either are goth or picked on and feel isolated. It amazes me that they say they find strength from reading about Raven.

As a writer, why do you think the genre of monsters such as werewolves and vampires is so appealing for so many people?Love Bites (Vampire Kisses, Book 7)

I think it always has been. I just think there are more writers writing for young adult girls. I think there is and has always been something sexy about a charming guy who is an outcast and for me I wanted to write about a vampire who needed a girl and explore the romantic side without the blood and gore.

What was the most challenging aspect of bringing Once in a Full Moon to life?

Writing in the time I needed to. I had to write it quickly because of the timeline when it was going to be published, so I had my fingers to the keyboard constantly until it was finished.

What can we look forward to reading from you next? Any upcoming projects or new series in the works?
Vampire Kisses: The Beginning (Vampire Kisses / Kissing Coffins / Vampireville)

There will be two more VAMPIRE KISSES novels (9 &10), three more volumes of manga and three books in the ONCE IN A FULL MOON series. So I am quite busy. I do have an idea on another series for the future.

Beware of a kiss under the full moon. It will change your life forever.
Celeste Parker is used to hearing scary stories about werewolves—Legend's Run is famous for them. She's used to everything in the small town until Brandon Maddox moves to Legend's Run and Celeste finds herself immediately drawn to the handsome new student. But when, after an unnerving visit with a psychic, she encounters a pack of wolves and gorgeous, enigmatic Brandon, she must discover whether his transformation is more than legend or just a trick of the shadows in the moonlight.

Her best friends may never forgive her if she gives up her perfect boyfriend, Nash, for Brandon, who's from the wrong side of town. But she can't deny her attraction or the strong pull he has on her. Brandon may be Celeste's hero, or he may be the most dangerous creature she could encounter in the woods of Legend's Run.

Psychic predictions, generations-old secrets, a town divided, and the possibility of falling in love with a hot and heroic werewolf are the perfect formula for what happens . . . once in a full moon.
