Waiting on Wednesday: Red Riding Hood by Sarah Blakley-Cartwright

Red Riding Hood

RED RIDING HOODBY SARAH BLAKLEY-CARTWRIGHT
January 25th 2011 by Little, Brown Books for Young Readers

The body of a young girl is discovered in a field of wheat. Her flesh mutilated by telltale claw marks. The Wolf has broken the peace. When Valerie learns that her sister has been killed by the legendary creature, she finds herself at the center of a dark mystery, one that has plagued her village for generations. It is revealed that the werewolf lives among them, and everyone in the village immediately becomes a suspect. Could her secret love Peter be behind the attacks on her town? Is it her betrothed, Henry? Or someone even closer to her? As the men in the village hunt for the beast, Valerie turns to her grandmother for help. She gives Valerie a handmade red riding cloak, and guides her through the web of lies and deception that has held her town together for so long. Will Valerie discover the werewolf's identity before the town is ripped apart? This is a dangerous new vision of a classic fairy tale, the happy ending could be hard to find.
.

I believe this is the book the upcoming 2011 movie with Amanda Siegfried is based off of. As an absolute werewolf junkie, I can't WAIT for both! I feel like this was made just for me! :)

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event spotlighting upcoming releases we are highly anticipating. It is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine.

I was wondering if there was a book based on that movie you are talking about. Good pick! Thanks for sharing this!

Oh I need to add this one to my list! Despite not being the Twilight fan, I love retelling of fairy tales! I saw the preview and am already hooked! And now it's a book too? Sweet!

Oooo this is the one they based the upcoming film on? Well then count me in! I need to read this one.

Question is: Do you prefer seeing the movie or reading the book first?

Oooh Juju that is a great question! Sometimes I think it's better to see the movie because if you've just read the book you will have this constant inner critique going on in your mind the entire movie. :)

I can't WAIT for this movie and book. I'll happily take whichever comes my way first!

"Oh-my, Publisher, what big hands you have!"

"Big enough to steal you money with, My-dear."

I just finished the book. The book was an okay read. It's a retelling of "Little Red Riding Hood" in a gothic setting. The characters fell a little flat and nothing was added to the story to make it completely original.

Unbelieveable, the book lacks the final chapters containing the climax and resolution.

The book was written as publicity stunt for the up-and-coming film; the final chapters were left out purposefully so that the only way to know the ending is to go see the movie.

I think that this is quite unethical.
